FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions

IS THE LATON TAÍNO LEARNING COMMUNITY A TRIBE?

The Laton Taíno Nation is not a tribe, it is a collective of Connecticut and Greater Waterbury Taino's who want to reconnect and learn about their Caribbean ancestors.  We are all part of a large network of Taino individuals and practitioners who are helping us reconnect.

We are honest with our future intentions to build up a  Yukayeke of our own and are working under the guidence and tutelage of  Taíno Elder/Behique Miguel A Sague Jr.   We must walk before we run and are on a multi year journey.  2022 we formed, 2023 we laid out our ground work, 2024 we will actively recruit paid members and work towards 2026 of becoming a full yukayeke.
